Forms: Your full name, email address, and/or message will be recorded in order to contact us via our contact form or sign up to receive downloadable content.

Embedded content from other websites.  Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Mailing list.  If you subscribe to our email list, we collect your name, email address, and business name in order to communicate with you. Our email sign-up process requires an opt-in to ensure you wish to receive communications from us.

If we find you have participated in several of our free online offerings (i.e. webinars, Summer Reading Series, downloaded gated material, etc.), we may reach out to you to see if there is any interest in other services.

Analytics.  We have Google Analytics on our site to better understand users’ interest in our site. This is for our edification. It’s informative to see how many visitors are landing on our website, and what page they found most enjoyable to read (based on time spent on the page).

Comments.  When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

(NOTE: Comments are typically turned off on this website, but it’s possible they will be turned on at some point.  For example, we turn on the comment feature as part of our Summer Reading Series, so readers can share their thoughts/reflections).

How long we retain data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, and because your comments provide valuable insight.

If you’re on our mailing list, we retain your data indefinitely unless you choose to unsubscribe and/or you request we delete your information. We do this so we can communicate with you and for analytics purposes.

We maintain anonymized analytics reports indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can choose to unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time. There is an unsubscribe button on every email sent via MailChimp. If you have trouble with it, contact Professionally Speaking Consulting, LLC and we can unsubscribe you manually.  Additionally, normally once a year we send out an email inviting readers to unsubscribe to our newsletter if desired.

If you have specific requests about your data, please contact us directly.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We send data to companies we trust and have a working business relationship with. We are a very small company and try to choose reputable providers with strong data protection practices.

How to update your data

If you opt-in to our mailing list, the option to unsubscribe or update will be included in every email. You may also access and correct your personal information and privacy preferences by contacting us with your request at smscotti@professionallyspeaking.net.
